Pro se for one hearing?

California

I have two attorneys for my divorce: One for a DVTRO and one for the divorce. My ex served me with a RFO demanding I refund him money for court ordered payments he made (but didn’t) for the DVTRO and wants to sanction me via attorney fees (he insisted I pocketed the money when I actually put it towards other marital accounts he was court ordered to make- per my attorney).

I read over his FL-150 and he owes 22k in credit debt, 13k in legal debt, and stated to the court that he owes no back support. However, I turned him over to DCSS months prior for falling behind on support, again, and they calculated that he owes me 11k now. My ex makes 10k a month and I make about 2k as a part time worker and a student in nursing. I also have full custody and he has virtual supervised visits twice week per the DVTRO (he rarely shows to these).

Unfortunately, my DVTRO attorney has a super limited scope with the financial portion of the DVTRO because the payments out for marital accounts in the divorce. To ensure I don’t end up alone and confused at the RFO hearing, my attorney is offering to send me with a paralegal and even help me prep for the hearing since they cannot represent me there.

I’m posting to ask for your experiences with pro se for a hearing and any advice you may have for me! It looks like for this hearing my ex’s attorney is sending someone else from their firm… so that’ll be fun lol.
