Genuine question: Is being an "AI wrapper" actually a bad thing, or is solving a real problem what matters?

Hey everyone,

few days ago, my boyfriend and I shared our health startup in another startup community because we genuinely wanted feedback. Some of the feedback was really valuable. People pointed out issues around UI/UX, legal compliance, positioning, branding, and the biggest question we kept getting was Why would I use this instead of ChatGPT?Those are all things we're taking seriously.

But one comment kept coming up over and over again that It's just an API wrapper, It's just a ChatGPT/Claude wrapper, Trash nd all that got me thinking, and I wanted to ask this community a genuine question. Is using commercial LLM APIs actually considered a bad thing by itself?Because from my point of view, the technology stack shouldn't be the main issue. If a product solves a real problem, provides a better workflow, or creates value that users actually care about, does it really matter whether it's built on top of existing LLMs?

At the same time, I also understand the other side of the argument. If the only value you're adding is a different UI on top of ChatGPT, then that's probably not enough and can be replaced overnight.I'm not asking this to defend our startup. After reading all the comments, I'm genuinely trying to understand how experienced founders and builders think about this.I'd honestly appreciate your perspective.
P.S. I'm not mentioning our startup's name on purpose. A few people in my previous post assumed I was trying to promote it, but that's not what this post is about. I'm only here to understand the community's perspective on AI wrappers and what actually makes an AI product valuable.
