Just finished my first run!
Holy Shit, what a ride.
This is actually my 2nd run ever, but I never made it past Act1 in that one, so this is my first run seeing more of the game.
First, let me show you who I was playing with. Human Warrior. Yes, I know, pretty basic, but after some hiccups on my 1st run, I decided to go back to basics. Went a good run and became savior of Baldur's Gate, but she could be a little bit of an asshole at time.
Funny enough, I planned to romance Shadowheart with her, but ended up with Lae'zel. It just happened, and wasn't planning on it, but wasn't going to complain. Funny enough, I somehow let The Emperor eat the brain of Orpheus in front of her, convince her not to turn on us and even convinced her to stay with me afterward, and happy forever after.
Fun fact: the first time I saw Isobel, I was wishing for her to be romanceable, but now I know well she is very taken.
Elder Brain fight: IDK if I did a bug or a feature in my fight against the Elder Brain, but after opening the portal, my Tav entered shortly after, leaving Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Gale alone outside. Gale had Sanctuary because one guy keep blocking his spells either way. Lae'zel then dies. No time to rez her unfortunately, so I have Shadowheart and Gale rush to the portal, but Shadowheart dies before they reach it and Gale leaves combat, seemingly permanently (he ascended prematurely?). While in real-time mode, I use him to revive Shadowheart and take both to the portal and neither got into battle outside nor with the brain, IDK how. I kept hitting the brain with The Emperor and my Tav, but then I just switched to Gale, spammed fireball and killed the Elder Brain. LOL
BTW, while I didn't get spoiled on anything, I kept seeing people hating on The Emperor, and I kept waiting for him to betray me or something. Do people hate him for tricking you early in the game or for insisting you to become an Illithid, or something else?
