Do you need landlord permission to install wall anchored furniture (like a wardrobe, extra cabinetry, or Murphy bed)?
I can’t find a clear answer on this. My lease has a “no alterations” clause where we agree to maintain the unit in the same condition as original occupancy. I’m curious whether something like a Murphy bed, an IKEA wall anchored wardrobe, or additional bathroom cabinets, violate this lease… ? We wouldn’t be removing any current fixtures, just adding wall anchored furniture that we intend to remove when we leave.
So, if we professionally install the furniture with a stud finder and repair the holes in the wall before leaving, have we violated the lease? Do we need to notify/ask the landlord or can we just do it? does installing these items constitute “reasonable enjoyment”?
