30M earning ₹1.4L/month: Should I prepay my ₹18L home loan or continue investing ₹50k/month in mutual funds?
I'm 29, unmarried, and currently earning around ₹1.4 lakh/month in hand.
Here's my current situation:
- Home loan outstanding: ~₹18 lakh (interest rate around 8.5%)
- Emergency fund: ₹8 lakh
- Mutual fund portfolio: ~₹22 lakh
- Monthly SIP: ₹50,000
- Monthly household expenses: ~₹45,000
- No other loans or EMIs.
Financially, I'm comfortable, but I'm confused about my next move.
Part of me wants to aggressively prepay the home loan just for the peace of mind of becoming debt-free sooner.
The other part feels that since I've already built the habit of investing consistently, I should let the SIPs continue and pay the loan as scheduled.
I know there isn't one correct answer, and everyone's risk tolerance is different.
If you were in my position, would you focus on becoming debt-free earlier or continue investing and let compounding do its job?
