Dietary Preference Drama

I’m tired of when people make a massive performance out of dietary preferences. They treat a choice like it’s some kind of heroic personality trait or moral high ground. Nobody QUIETLY says at a dinner table in a restaurant that they are “gluten-free”. And I’m not talking about people with celiac disease. That’s totally different. I’m talking about the “choosers”. It’s always loud, pointing at the menu, questioning the waiter, asking for substitutions, etc.. the irony is sometimes these people go on to order the most fatty dessert, or deep fried gluten-free item. Conversely, I love whole wheat. It’s extremely nutritious and readily available, cheap, nutrient dense, and provides gut health fiber. Sometimes I feel like offering a rebuttal to the gluten-free person who thinks their way is “healthier”. But I don’t. I don’t announce my preference for the better choice of the whole wheat. I don’t hold court with the waiter, extolling the virtues of that wonderful grain. Same with The Vegan/ Vegetarian crowd , how they munch on things like Pringles, Oreos and Diet Coke. Or the crowd that takes those pseudoscience “food sensitivity” scam tests, then declare how they can no longer eat mushrooms or carrots. I really don’t care what anyone eats, but why make everybody around you aware of your dietary “needs” ? And it’s never poor people.
I really needed to vent.
