Career advice needed
Hey everyone, I really need some career advice because I feel stuck and I don't know what direction to take.
I only got 2 credits for my SC exams, and where I live it feels really difficult to find better opportunities with that. I've been thinking about changing careers, working abroad, or maybe trying for a cruise ship job, but I don't know what options I realistically have.
I currently work in Finance & Accounting, mainly invoice processing/accounts payable. I have experience in this field, but my current workplace is extremely toxic. We are basically pressured to do overtime (minimum 2-3 hours a day) if we want to be allowed to work from home.
The work environment has affected me mentally. There are people in my team who make things difficult. One colleague who is almost the same level as me acts like my boss. When I ask for help, she makes me feel like I'm annoying or disturbing her, ignores me, and has made it obvious that she didn't want me in the team. I went to HR, but nothing really changed.
Because of all this stress, my confidence has gone down a lot. I struggle to communicate properly when I'm under pressure and I feel like I'm not performing at my best anymore.
I was thinking about doing ACCA because I like finance, but I'm not planning to do it right now because I can't afford the course and exam fees. Also, mentally I don't feel ready for such a big commitment at the moment.
My main goal is to find a career that can give me a better salary and better opportunities. I'm willing to learn new skills if needed.
Based on my experience in invoice processing/accounts payable, what skills or certifications would be worth learning to increase my salary? Are there other career paths I should consider?
I'm also interested in working abroad or on a cruise ship. What types of jobs could I qualify for with my background, and what experience or skills would help me get there?
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has changed careers, increased their salary, or moved abroad for work.
