Would you resign? Looking for outside perspective!?!
I’m looking for some honest outside opinions because I’ve been wrestling with this decision for quite a while.
I haven’t resigned yet, but I’m seriously considering it. Before I make that decision, I’d like to hear from people who have been in similar situations.
For context, I’m an Office Manager for a small family-owned electric company In California.
When I accepted the position, I was genuinely excited. I wanted to help build the business, create systems, improve organization, and contribute to its growth. I’ve put a lot of effort into doing exactly that.
Over time, though, I’ve started feeling like this may not be the right fit.
Some of the issues I’ve experienced are:
- I’m paid below market value , but the responsibilities and expectations of my role have continued to grow well beyond what I feel that wage reflects.
- every payday, I have to ask the owner where my paycheck is because it hasn’t been deposited
- When I ask team to complete tasks that are part of their responsibilities, I usually get attitude or resistance.
- I’ve repeatedly asked for tools, resources, and support that I believe are necessary for me to be successful in growing and organizing the business, but those requests haven’t really been addressed.
- The workplace feels very chaotic, and because it’s a family business, the lines of authority aren’t always clear.
- There have also been situations where I’ve been asked to submit permit information that I didn’t believe accurately reflected the actual value of the work. That made me uncomfortable because I don’t want to put my name on something that conflicts with my personal ethics.
This isn’t the result of one bad day. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and I’m trying to look at the entire picture rather than one isolated issue.
