An Unexpected Pattern I've Noticed Running an AI Ad Agency

Ask Startup :ask:

I've been running an AI ad agency for a while now, and one pattern surprised me enough that I wanted to share it.

A lot of people assume brands without a strong social media presence aren't worth pitching. I thought the same at first. Turns out, that's often completely wrong.

Many of these businesses simply haven't been approached with the right creative strategy. They aren't ignoring marketing—they just haven't seen an approach that fits their industry.

The biggest mistake I see is agencies chasing the same oversaturated niches: cosmetics, skincare, DTC brands, generic UGC ads. Everyone is competing for the same clients with nearly identical portfolios.

Meanwhile, we've had a much higher success rate with industries that most creators ignore:

- Manufacturing companies

- B2B businesses

- Industrial brands

- Early-stage startups

- Traditional businesses looking to modernize

These clients usually don't need another trendy TikTok-style UGC video. They respond much better to cinematic storytelling, founder stories, process videos, product explainers, recruitment films, and brand documentaries that actually communicate trust and expertise.

The competition is lower, the conversations are more meaningful, and the value you can provide is much clearer.

Has anyone else running an agency noticed the same shift? I'm curious which niches have unexpectedly worked well for you.
