Messages app is stuck, help!

Galaxy A15 5G
One UI 8.5
Android 16

I was in the midst of receiving a photo in RCS. I got the notification "Messages is working in the background" and then the messages app stopped responding. I tried force quitting and nothing improved. I tried rebooting the phone several times, no luck. Since the app is native, I can't delete and reinstall it. Can anyone help?
