Nervous Renter

Have any long-term renter's here asked their property manager for new carpet?

My carpet is 30 years old. It's not the worst, and it's been regularly cleaned, but after 20 years in the place, I don't think it's worth the price of another steam clean.

It's becoming a dirt and dust trap and I'd really rather not have carpet.

A friend mentioned that it's outlived it's life and maybe I should ask for something that's not carpet.

I'm getting nervous that if they make any improvements my lease may not be renewed, but on the other hand I feel like not asking is not good upkeep of the rental.

How did you go about asking?

Did they replace it with carpet or hard flooring?
