Anyone have a bad tutor experience?
Lmaoo one time I got a tutor through Varsity Tutors and it was just overall bad. It was like $365 for an hour of this tutors time and what a waste of time..I was so angry I fired him immediately afterwords and had to push for a refund. Here’s some kinda bad advice and red flags he had 🚩
- spend 30 seconds on the first 10 questions? That’s stupid and ineffective. What if you didn’t understand what you read and now you wasted a lot of points because this dumbass told you to do so. Plus a lot of the time the first 10 questions are lower level in difficulty. Some questions take a minute, two minutes, or even three. What’s important is understanding what you read not spending 30 seconds 🙄
- first thing he does to me is he says “okay let’s do necessary and sufficient assumptions question with only 30 seconds to do each of them” ?? Why are we doing this?? Mind you I was like in the 140s so I had no idea what was even going on I barely even understood how to those questions worked (this was a year ago)
- he tried to give me an “LSAT bootcamp” where I just do a load of questions within a month and if I didn’t do a load of questions, I’ll never get my goal score. I’m like wtf?? That’s bullshit because this exam is very quality over quantity. Also it takes a lot of normal brained people much longer than a month to get a 170+. I’ve been at this over a year and I still sometimes get a question that is slightly confusing
- he deadass admitted to me that the company he worked for sucks and he was only doing the tutoring to make money in law school… he also didn’t even get a 170+, he got a 168 which is amazing not shaming that but I feel like to be a tutor you have to be a really high scorer. Maybe I’m wrong for saying because you could be a high scorer and offer terrible advice (I’ve seen that before to). Also why are you bashing the company that is helping you pay your bills? Just wow what an unprofessional individual. I could tell he did not care if you got a 170+ or not. He only cared about prestige and making money.
Literally cried because varsity tutor tried to say it was non refundable and they also didn’t want to give any other tutors….I contacted the better business bureau, showed them what he said to me and got my refund 🤷♀️ now I use LSAT demon, love it there 💙😈 they’re way less toxic and teach the exam in a very healthy way that’s less stressful
In summary: me and this tutor did not get along because his way of teaching it just sucked in my opinion. Yeah timing yourself is important but if you’re in the 140s, don’t worry about that yet. Be accurate first. Also yes they did try to steal my paycheck of $300+ but I got it back
