Some potentially hot takes?
A collection of takes I have within the SW community. Please, let's have calm debates and NOT wish death on people, yeah?
The reason clones were better than Battle Droids is because they were allowed to learn, grow, evolve. Express their individuality. And then when Order 66 comes down, it *robs* them of that Humanity. It shows that everyone was a tool in that war of Palpatine, from the lowest soldier to Dooku himself. Everyone is a victim. And those chips are a good way to explain, at least to me, why these soldiers who had fought with these people for a good 3-5 years (idr how long the war was off the top of my head) would just go "SURE, I'LL KILL THE GUY WHO'S SAVED MY LIFE HUNDREDS OF TIMES!"
Or the Coruscant Guard and the 501st being so gung-ho about MURDERING CHILDREN
As I was saying. Gendy's work had no direct input, nor oversight from Lucas himself. And when it's all put together, it's just kind of a messy hour or so of a bunch of action scenes. There's little in the way of pathos or calm. It's just BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM! And the final, combined product suffers for it. Yes, Greivous gets to be shown as the fucking *nightmare* he is. Because he didn't have to face down Obi-Wan every other week. Plot armor is a heavy burden when writing for Grievous, as you need to maintain established continuity and such. But because it's just action scene after action set piece, it just blurs together for me. 08's TCW had a lot more room to breathe. It tapped into the real *pathos* of the era. Showing the individuality of the Clones, of the Jedi, the true *tragedy* of it all.
Super late to the party here, but to explain why Grievous feels super "lame" as some put it, is simply due to who the main characters are. You can't have Grievous kill Kenobi, or even MEET Skywaler, in order to maintain the story. But if there were more episodes like the one with Kit Fisto and his apprentice, with Jedi that AREN'T the Dynamic Duo of Anakin and Obi-Wan, we would likely see how powerful Grievous can be. He can, and is, a threat to most Jedi, due to his fear tactics. He overwhelms people after stalking them in the shadows for hours, and his whole "spinning hands" trick can cause Jedi to lose focus, the thing they need most to wield the Force. I feel if they do a show based on his story, where we see the Jedi Hunter, not just the "I'll get you next time, Gadget!" from TCW, people would understand better.
I have a few issues with the Ashoka show personally, but not because EW GIRL COOTIES! I just feel that Rosario Dawson is kinda flat in her performances as Lady Tano. Plus the fact we never see her use reverse grip at ANY POINT in the show which is disappointing. Also, having Sabine be her apprentice is neat, ig? But feels kinda outta nowhere. Again, the plot points of finding Thrawn and the other force users (Baylan Skoll is dope) are great. And I think Rosario Dawson has done great performances prior to, and after. I just don't think she fits Ashoka.
