I am new here and was wondering how this all works.

Title pretty much says it all. I'm new to... this place? I have done rp in the past with a small number of people, most pg stuff. I was hoping someone could just fill me in on some common sense things or specific stuff I should know before I do anything. I'm certain I already know the basics but I would rather 'hear' them clearly stated rather than upset someone unnecessarily.
