Work Travel & Alcohol
Hey all. I drank heavily and daily for 6 or so years, 3-4 handles of captain a week at my worst point. I got a doctors help and tapered down to not needing to drink every day. I was at the point of drinking once every 2-3 weeks, well, in the past year ive gone from that to drinking daily but only 3-6 drinks. Its a bad amount and I know this but its far better than I was in the past.
Ive found i have 2 major triggers. Work travel and life altering stress. I travel for work roughly once a month, sometimes more sometimes less, and drinking helps me to relax/enjoy new places. It doesn't feel like it counts because its not "real life" and its so hard to come home and stop. I also have work trips where drinking is an expected part of the culture and bonding. Im paranoid that not partaking would lead to work problems.
Anyone else struggle with stopping drinking when they return from a trip or have any advice? I've taken several steps backwards and would really appreciate any advice you all have.
