Felt FR Advanced 105 Di2 vs BMC Teammachine SLR Three
Fairly new to road riding and looking for one do-it-all carbon race bike (~105 Di2 level) I can grow into. Goals: go fast, work up to comfortably riding 100km, and eventually try a masters (35+) crit. Want something with a sensible upgrade path so I'm not re-buying in two years.
Cross-shopping two bikes:
- Felt FR Advanced 105 Di2 — on sale for $3999 CAD (regular ~$6199). Comes with carbon wheels (Reynolds AR41). Available through my local shop.
- BMC Teammachine SLR Three — $3599 CAD. Alloy wheels, more aero/compliance-focused frame, integrated cockpit. Shop is a couple hours' drive away.
Where I'm stuck: the Felt includes carbon wheels at basically the same price, and it's local. The BMC is a bit cheaper and looks like the comfier frame for long days, but I'd have to buy carbon wheels later to match the Felt's speed, and it's not local for fit/service.
As a beginner:
- does the BMC's integrated cockpit make fit adjustments and servicing a pain early on?
- Does having the local shop matter as much as I think?
- And for someone building up to crits + 100km, would you prioritize the Felt's stock carbon wheels or the BMC's more comfortable frame?
