Why do you think 90s music isn't popular for background music as the 80s was?

Discussion 💭🗯️

The 80s literally dominated background music for over 20 - 30 years, I even heard it took over by the mid 90s, and literally it was still ubiquitous in malls and restaurants in the 2010s until around COVID.

I noticed that 2000s and 2010s is rapidly taking over as the background music in malls, restaurants, offices, etc. The only 80s music nowadays are usually the same 10 - 15 songs that have been played or most well known now to today's generation, same goes along with 70s its mostly ABBA and some disco.

Sadly 90s got skipped as 80s music was more popular and 2000s and 2010s taking over, I feel like a majority of 90s, except for Y2K pop is skipped because a lot of 90s music doesn't fit that background music sound
