Postpartum Rant
I cannot standddddddd my in-laws postpartum. They live a couple hours away and we had planned that when baby arrives they can make a day trip to come see him. On the day of they said they would come the following day. Never asked what hospital we were at or anything, we figured they’d call us but they decided to wing it, went to the wrong hospital, got lost, refused to call an uber because it costs money (MIL likes to talk about how well they’ve done often)…. And so hubby had to go pick them up. They arrive empty handed, hungry, play with baby for a bit then decide they need lunch and ask hubby to take them to get food. He does. They come back and MIL says “oh we forgot to ask you if you wanted anything.” She proceeds to lay down on the bench to rest. FIL needs tea now, is too cheap to go to the cafeteria, asks me to order him one because I get a free meal (ya like as the patient)…. I can’t believe I said yes. They couldn’t take a hint and leave despite me repeatedly asking them to step outside for various checks (even though MIL would tell me it’s fine if they stay), and finally 3-4 hours later they ask hubby for a ride back to the bus stop because again $$$$uber$$$$.
Fast forward, I’ve heard it all from MIL. Baby gets hungry too quickly and I’m not producing enough milk, baby isn’t dressed right, that’s how now you zip a jacket, hold him like this, change his diaper here infront of me. I asked once at her place if she needed help in the kitchen (hubby was watching baby) and she says your job is to take care of the baby. Duh? You don’t need to tell me that?
Every milestone is late or not right. So and so was walking by now, so and so says dada already, why hasn’t he started crawling yet. God forbid you compliment us.
Anyways I’ve distanced myself from them a bit. We would make week long trips to go visit them and I finally put my foot down and said forget it. They can come to us and make a day trip out of it. They are retired. Well after 4 months they’ve finally asked to come visit, but only on days that work for them and it’s up to us to accommodate (because those are the days they have free transportation)….
I’m sick of them.
