Questions for myself before dating again
Hello.
Its been 1.5 years since my wife died. Alcohol induced liver failure. I slowly watched her die over 2 years from drinking all the time. We were both 27 at the time of her death. Id been in love with her for 13 years of my life.
Ive been dealing with the complex and difficult emotions of our relationship and our decisions. She was the love of my life, but our relationship was not healthy. I can acknowledge that, while feeling an overwhelming sadness for her.
Ive recently debated with myself trying to get back into the dating pool. I got injured and incapaticated with only my mother to help me. The paniced thought in my head was "If i didnt have my mom, than i'd have no one to help me with basic things like going to the bathroom or eating/drinking."
Im not sure if this is coming off as Im just needing a care taker. I dont. It was more of a fear of having no one in my life actually care about me.
I know I have a lot of processing and healing to do. I'm sure that it will be something I will have to battle with til my final breathe. I dont want to feel like a burden to someone in a romantic relationship from the trauma and heartbreak. I know itll also take the effort of a supportive partner who has the capacity to understand enough to a point. Theres always a limit to everything, and I dont think I could blame them for wanting to drop my baggage.
So my question for you is, what questions do I need to answer about myself before I try dating again to make it easier for a potential partner?
