How do I determine brackets for my decks when I think I play differently than most do?
Warning: Lot of rambling incoming, I'll put a Tl:Dr at the bottom
Kind of a weird title, but basically, I have a couple (Commander) decks and I'm always swapping new cards to try and make the deck better. Usually not like the crazy good (expensive) stuff, but I've pulled quite a few good cards from packs and am getting better at tweaking them. I've been wondering about this for a while, but today I was able to grab a copy of [[Gifts Ungiven]] and I thought it would be cool to add it to my Zombie deck. It's a pretty heavily modified [[Gisa and Geralf]] precon and I thought it would fit well. I'm not fully sure about the power levels, but I've heard that adding Game Changers to decks automatically make decks Bracket 3 or higher. I've also kind of heard that Brackets also come down to intent too.
I mostly have only played with friends, but I want to play at more LGS's, so I want to make sure I am not being mean and bringing overpowered stuff to casual game or something. But all this exposition is because I don't play the way most people seem to. I don't play with the intent to win, but with the intent to see my stuff grow or get big and cool. I don't really have game enders or a plan with any of my decks like a "This ends the game if I play it." I probably have a few things that would do that, but I don't play things like that until we have to go or unless I have to protect my stuff. I'm not going to say never, cause that's weird, but I'd say it's pretty consistent. That's not to say I don't have like interaction and stuff, but it's less about advancing a game plan, and more about just keeping my stuff alive. Which is normal, but like I won't use it as an opening, I don't really attack with any of my stuff, I just like to grow big and do nothing. I feel like most people grow their board and go kind of chess style, where they are trading pieces to try and get closer to winning, but I am more like some dude that has a gated community and I want to build my stuff in peace and not interact with anyone unless necessary. Like going back to the zombie deck, I want to build a giant army of zombies, cause that's the fun part, but I don't want to lose them unless I myself am sacrificing them, so I just won't swing
As an example, the first and only game I've been to with completely random people at an LGS, was a very interesting experience. I was playing my [[Ygra, Eater of All]] deck and I was having a good time, cause I was basically just building a giant boardstate, but doing nothing. I should mention as well, I couldn't care less about losing or seeing my stuff die, I just like to see my deck do what it's themed around or can do. At one point I got like Ygra to like +200,+200 (probably more) because everything was dying and I was happy cause she was getting big, and nobody was killing her (or couldn't idk) and eventually, I didn't even realize it, but one of the other guys pointed out that I played like a 4 or 5 card infinite combo sacrificing loop, which ended up winning me the game, despite doing nothing, but not because that was my plan. In fact, it was [[Rapacious Guest]] that killed one player (one had already died) and I needed a way to get them back. However, I didn't know how, and this dude (dead guy) tried to help me to see how I could win the game, but he wouldn't show me which card it would be to try and get me to figure out for myself. Credit to him, he was very nice, and I did find it, but not before literally sitting there for 30 minutes trying to think how to end it (He looked through my remaining deck and said there was a "win" card, and I had a [[Umbral Collar Zealot]] out) but I felt really bad because the other players were just sitting waiting for me to figure out and I was getting overwhelmed because I felt bad for having them just sit and not do anything). Also, after that game, he also was telling me about how I need to build decks with game enders in because with the infinite sac outlet, I could've easily won if I had ways to give my stuff trample or something, but I didn't so they can just block my bajillion damage if I were to send it.
Another example of a deck I have is, I have a [[Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn]] lifegain/ +1/+1 counters deck. This is probably my best deck because of how simple, but efficient it is. I've really tried to make it work with all the cards together and synergize and stuff. I think it might be Bracket 3 now, but again, because of intent and stuff, I'm not sure, cause similar to Ygra, I just like to grow really big and then not do anything. Like this one I know I have trample creatures, but I still don't swing or do anything, just kind of exist on a happy little island by myself.
Tl:Dr - I don't know how to properly gauge the strength of my decks because I think (some of) my decks are strong, but my intent is not to win, but to just see my stuff do stuff and I don't want to mislead people if I play with more people at LGS's
