I might have another kidney stone but I don't know what to do...

Question/ Request for advice

I want to give some background, but I won't make you guys read all that just to get to my question. I've been having pain similar to when I had a kidney stone last year, but it's only been for a few minutes twice today. To be clear, the only time I've felt pain like this was with the kidney stone. I'm terrified that it's another stone and I'm wondering if I should go to the doctor. Would they even have me get an ultrasound if the pain isn't constant/"bad enough?" Am I overreacting? I just don't want to go through all that again 😭.

Background:

So in January of 2025, I woke up with excruciating pain in my lower abdomen that went all the way to my back. I was home from college on winter break, so I was lucky to have my parents drive me to the ER. After spending 2 nights there without food and a lot of painkillers, an ultrasound showed I had a small kidney stone (I never got the exact measurements which I thought was a little weird but idk). The urologist told me to go home, wait for it to pass, and take ibuprofen.

I think it took 3 or 4 days of me crying, sleeping, heating pads, and alternative OTC pain meds for me to finally get in to see a family doctor. I finally got prescribed Norco which DEFINITELY helped and the doctor called to tell the urologist I saw that something needed to be done besides waiting.

The following Monday, I went in for them to check it out and possibly put a stent in. He seemed really casual about it and I was freaking out like crazy because the closest thing to surgery I've ever had was filling in a cavity. Afterwords, while I woke up from anesthesia, the urologist informed me that it was a 7mm stone that was "jack-knifed into my ureter" and caused it to swell up really bad, so the stent was necessary. The stent pain was almost worse than the stone pain, but it felt so much better after being taken out. However, I spent three weeks at home, two of which were missed weeks of school.

If you've made it this far, is the treatment I got "normal?" Not the stone removal treatment, but the "hey its probably nothing just wait it out and quit being a wimp" thing. I feel like no one believed how bad it was, partially due to me being upfront about how I have a low pain tolerance. And, kind of unrelated, they asked if I drink a lot of pop (to which I said no because carbonated drinks hurt my throat for some reason) they gave me the NASTIEST side eye I've ever seen and dismissed it.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk, fellow (kidney) stoners 👍
