Incoming CS Laptop
Hi all, I’d firstly like to apologise if this question has already been asked a lot on this sub.
I’m an incoming CS student for F26, and I was wondering what laptop I should get (would love to hear what current CS students think). I’ve heard that profs say it doesn’t matter if you go with a macbook or a windows based laptop (or any os for that matter).
I was wondering if the M5 Macbook Air with 16gb of Unified Memory (and all of the base options: 512gb storage, 8 core gpu) would be okay (NOT planning to use it for gaming, just school, web browsing, and streaming), or if 16gb isn’t enough. I’m looking for something to, at minimum, get me through the next five years of uni.
I’m more familiar with Windows based systems (what I’ve grown up on), but wouldn’t mind switching over to the Apple ecosystem (already have an iPhone and Airpods) especially if it means a lighter, quieter, and more battery conservative experience.
Was also wondering if it would be worth picking up an iPad to take lecture notes!
Thanks in advance for any help!
