Day 2 after LIS - Hard lump at the edge of my anus. Anyone else experienced this?

NSFW

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my anal fissure journey and ask if anyone has had a similar experience after LIS (Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy).

My symptoms started in May. Every bowel movement felt like I was passing broken glass, and I had bright red blood on the stool and toilet paper. I tried everything my doctor initially recommended—warm sitz baths, prescription creams, a high-fiber diet, plenty of water, and stool softeners—but nothing helped.

I eventually saw a colorectal surgeon who diagnosed me with a chronic anal fissure (I originally thought it was hemorrhoids). Since conservative treatment failed, I decided to undergo LIS.

I'm now 2 days post-op. The fissure pain seems different, but I have a hard, painful lump at the edge of my anus that feels almost like a hemorrhoid or pile. Most of my discomfort is coming from that lump rather than the incision itself.

My surgeon told me it's likely swollen/prolapsed tissue caused by the surgery and incision, and that it's expected during recovery.

Has anyone else experienced this after LIS?

How long did the lump and swelling last?

Did it gradually shrink on its own?Was the pain mostly from the swollen tissue during the first week?

I'd really appreciate hearing your recovery experiences. Thank you!
