Film Aspirations

Hello! I’m an upcoming freshman at ucla starting this fall majoring in data science. However, it’s always been a dream of mine to be able to break into the film industry, which is why I’ve been planning to try to do a film minor.

I’ve written screenplays and short stories, but I’ve never really filmed a short film of my own throughout high school. So for any of those that have majored or minored in film with aspirations to be a director or an actor or a screenwriter, what is some advice you’d have regarding clubs, how to make connections with people, and how to get internships or other experience with film (esp for someone with not too much experience in it going in)? Not exclusive to ucla film students, just a general question wanting some genuine advice cuz I know I’m young but I sometimes worry how I’d ever break into the industry without any connections.

Anything you guys can offer would genuinely help so much and I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
