Why does everyone make the intern feel absolutely useless?
I've been an intern for over a month having done my obgyn rotation and now currently halfway through casualty rotation and my question remains.
From the class 4 workers to the nurses to the jr , they don't miss an opportunity to put an intern down.
Most non acad JRs in my hospital have a terrible demeanor towards the intern and i really fail to understand where that comes from considering they aren't specialists.
I understand that there are a lot more basics to learn and do, while I suck at a few things and better at a few as well , I can only see the things one is bad at being highlighted. The good, the somewhat better remains to be unnoticed.
Despite my conundrum, I'm quite happy to learn and grateful to whomever has taken out time to reach stuff during a shift , be it the sr or the nurse.
I just fail to understand the constant negativity over trivial aspects and am now able to see why one would forgo this process to study for post graduate exams.
Perhaps I'm still quite green as I expect a modicum of compassion. Besides as long as the work is being done in the given time and efficiently for the most part with no patient harm in play why the trivial hate?
