AITA for calling my boyfriend a hypocrite in this situation

NTA

I’m currently in the process of applying to graduate school. I’ve applied to programs across California some in NorCal and some in SoCal. I live in NorCal and my boyfriend lives in SoCal so we have been long distance.
We were having a conversation now that I’m starting to get interviews in both areas. He encourages me to choose a program in SoCal to be closer. I told him I’d consider things such as tuition and how good the program is and he proceeded to say “this is how I know you don’t care about me or us.”
I said well if I go to school in NorCal you can always move up here with me. He then says “well I have things to consider like my family being in SoCal”.
I then told him he was being a hypocrite for having his reasoning for wanting to stay but telling me I don’t care for not saying I would choose SoCal over NorCal immediately. Which I never even said I favored NorCal I simply said there were things to consider.
He’s arguing that he isn’t a hypocrite because his reasoning is stronger and that his “parents are sick and alone”. He wants to include that he’s been putting his life on hold to prepare to move to NorCal by not getting a new job to see where to move once I get into school. AITA? Is he hypocrite?
