Am I lucky to receive money from a life insurance company that at most a couple can retire on and only get it once I'm 40?
So 2 years ago at age 25, I had a meeting with my family's life insurance company. The people there told me that on my 40th birthday, I'll receive a percentage of the life insurance money earlier and the rest later once my parents pass away. The good news is that percentage of that life insurance money is a couple of hundred thousand dollars which means at most a couple can retire on that money, that's what the insurance people and my parents told me. As a zoomer, I always dread about the idea of working forever to the bone till senior age and dream about retiring at least in my 50s, so the idea of retiring at age 40 sounds awesome. Though I have to wait until my 40th birthday which sucks because I'm a struggling artist and I currently work as a substitute teacher that only pays $100 per day (worse at most I work 4 days a week if I'm lucky). Even though I'm young, I know a lot of things can change in just 15 years and so who knows what could happen. I'm currently 27 but I have to survive 13 years until I get that money. I know I'm luckier than some zoomers but how lucky am I really? But after hearing what the insurance people saying at most a couple can retire on this money fully convinced me not to have kids, and made me feel grateful I'm gay. Once I'm 40, I'll treat myself to a nice restaurant to celebrate that I made it.
