Hi, all!

I picked up this lovely at a Goodwill Bins— always a gamble, true, but it appeared to have only mild wear and staining, and it (mostly) passed the smell test. It was so solidly made and subtly lovely, I thought I’d risk it, a mere $10.

Well….

When I got it home, started cleaning it, the rug’s history started becoming apparent. Oh, the pet urine, deep in its soul.

So far, I have given it an initial home rug cleaner session (which only brought forth its hauntings), taken it outside to be hosed-down with water and some relatively gentle dishwashing liquid, got some pet enzymatic cleaner on the really rough patches, and have let it sit in the exceptionally-hot sun (which is currently an overnight thunderstorm 🤨🙄). I feel like the fibers are not letting go of the deep stank, but I’m also not trying to do anything TOO drastic.

What do y’all recommend? Obviously I don’t want to ruin the rug, but it’s not doing anybody any good smelling like megabladder pets of days past. I’m trying to do it myself, since I’m broke, but do I need to just take it to a professional cleaner before I make things worse? Is it worth trying to revive this pretty, pretty thing?

Also, if anyone can confirm or refute for me the (initial) quality of the rug, I’d appreciate it.

Help me save this rug!
