Ureaplasma

My Experience

I will attempt to disambiguate the myco/ureaplasmas herein. The main difference between the two and their subspecies are that the symptoms of mycoplasma will present themselves utterly and completely. You will 100% know that something is in you. Ureaplasma can be hidden away, especially in women who will often not know they are carriers.

In North America the med consensus is that ureaplasma is part of the vaginal flora and that there is nothing to be done about it. Occasionally you will find a doctor that decides azithromycin might be a good idea. Unfortunately most ureaplasma and, in fact, mycoplasma infections are highly resistant to macrolide treatment.

In my experience mycoplasma gen was contracted with chlamydia. The chlamydia succumbed quickly to 10 days of azithromycin. The mgen did not. In Canada some fool prescribed metronidazole because another useless colleague erroneously indicated on my chart that I had tried moxi and it had failed.

Metronidazole wiped out my gut flora and I was left for dead. A few months later I finally saw a “specialist“ who told me what the clowns had written on my chart. Canada is an utter failure of a country. I was given moxi and laughed out of the office when I brought up the mention of pristinamycin being ordered.

A month later I took the moxi and received a negative test a week later. This was probably because I had already softened up the bacterial load with Azithr, a few days of doxy and 3 doses of metronidazole.

Less than a month later I contracted ureaplasma. The mgen had somehow magically mutated into ureaplasma in my partner who was negative for chlamydia. I should have tested her for mgen under the 14 pathogens multiplex real-time PCR. A test readily available in Thailand’s private hospitals. I guess Canada is just ass-backwards in comparison.

After loading up on advanced probiotics which we don’t have access to in Canada, we both took moxi for 4 days and then azithro for 5. Cured. Moxi makes you feel like crap for 3 weeks afterward.

Reinfected by a partner in Canada.

Bit the bullet and ordered Pristinamycin from private hospital in Thailand. Months later I took two boxes and tested negative.

Lesson? Canada is screwed.
