SWISS left me stranded in Zurich after missing my connection by under 5 minutes (flying Business Class)
Just need to vent about an infuriating experience with Swiss International Air Lines today.
My flight from Hong Kong to Zurich was delayed. Because of that delay, my tight connection from Zurich to Palermo was pushed to the absolute wire. I sprinted through ZRH and arrived at the Palermo departure gate less than 5 minutes after the official gate closure time printed on the pass.
The gate was already closed, the agents shrugged, and that was it. Missed.
A few things that make this absurdly frustrating:
Zero internal communication: The inbound flight was SWISS. The outbound flight was SWISS. They literally had my inbound flight tracking data in their system. They knew my plane had landed, they knew connecting passengers were on board, and they couldn't hold the door for 300 seconds?
Business Class product, zero flexibility: I was flying Business Class. You would think paying for a premium cabin on a single-carrier itinerary might buy a tiny bit of operational leeway when the delay was 100% their fault.
Industry standards: Almost every other major carrier I have flown with will hold a connection for 5 to 10 minutes when it is an in-house connection and passengers are actively moving through the terminal.
It feels like complete operational laziness and a total lack of care for customer experience. Now sitting here dealing with rebooking headaches and lost time in Palermo.
Has anyone else noticed SWISS getting completely rigid with ZRH connections lately, or am I just on the receiving end of a particularly bad ground staff shift?
