I LOVE mangoes. They are my favorite fruit in the world by far and one of my favorite foods ever. I've consumed over 5 lbs of mangoes on my own over the course of a day. I love them, and I've been fortunate enough to try mangoes from all around the world.

I have had everything from the Mexican Ataulfo to the Floridian Haden to the Indian Alphonso to the Thai Nam Dok Mai to the Vietnamese Cát Hòa Lộc to the Colombian Hilacha to the Brazilian Palmer to the Jamaican East Indian to the Australian Kensington Pride to the Burmese Sein Ta Lone to the egregiously-expensive Japanese Miyazaki mango. One mango I haven't yet had the pleasure of trying is the Filipino Carabao mango, which is widely hailed as the sweetest mango on Earth. I'll be the judge of that.

My current gold standard for a mango is the Pakistani Chaunsa. It is unbelievably aromatic, sugary, and creamy. Just perfection. I completed the test completely blindfolded and had someone hand me a mango for an initial sniff test (mango A). Then they cut them up and placed chunks in my mouth. Mango A won for both flavor and texture.

I'll be honest. I could identify that mango A was the Chaunsa right away. Mango B was significantly more sour, less sweet, and less aromatic. Neither was very fibrous.

My current rankings

Chaunsa 🇵🇰 9.2/10

Alphonso 🇮🇳 8.9/10

Anwar Ratol 🇵🇰 8.8/10

Sindhri 🇵🇰 8.6/10

Imam Pasand 🇮🇳 8.5/10

I know my list leans heavily South Asian, but they really are the best I've ever had so far.

I was assured the Carabao was ripe by the store clerk, but I definitely need to try it in the Philippines one day.
