route 1 gillette stadium bts concert traffic guide and tips
figured i'd share some insight on route 1 traffic for bts or any massive concert at gillette stadium because it can turn into a complete parking nightmare. route 1 is basically the only main vein in and out of the stadium, so traffic easily backs up for miles starting hours before the show.
if you are planning to drive, a really smooth option to bypass the stadium lot chaos is using prked to rent a private driveway or garage nearby from a local. it is usually way cheaper, feels much safer having your car on private property, and gives you a quick in and out so you skip those awful two to three hour exit lines. plus you can easily ask your host for updates on your car while you are inside watching the show.
if you do use official stadium parking, general parking on the opposite side of route 1 is included with your ticket, but getting out after the final encore is notoriously slow. stadium side prepaid lots cost extra and sell out very fast. the parking lots usually open four hours before the event, and arriving right when they open is honestly the best way to dodge the main gridlock from i-95 and i-495.
keep in mind that local police block off residential side streets to non-residents on event days, so do not count on gps shortcuts to save you. if you want to avoid the main highway congestion as long as possible, try taking bypass routes like route 140 or route 115 before connecting to route 1 closer to the stadium.
if you want to avoid driving entirely, check out the mbta special event train that runs from south station directly to foxboro station right at the stadium gates. you have to buy tickets ahead of time on the mticket app, and remember that the return train leaves roughly thirty minutes after the concert ends, so you have to move fast.
hope this helps you plan your trip and skip the worst of the traffic.
