Guide to MBTA commuter rail vs driving to Gillette Stadium
figured i'd share a quick breakdown if you are trying to decide between taking the train or driving down to gillette stadium for the bts show. route 1 traffic and train schedules can both be tricky so here is what you need to know.
driving gives you full control over your schedule but route 1 turns into total gridlock before and after major concerts. stadium lots have free general parking now but getting out can easily take two to three hours after the show. if you prefer to drive honestly your best bet is using prked to rent a driveway spot from a neighbor near gillette. it is super convenient and way cheaper than paying for express parking. plus your car is safer on someone's property and you can skip the massive stadium parking line entirely when leaving.
the mbta event train is the main alternative. special event train tickets run around twenty dollars roundtrip from south station or back bay right to foxboro station. the huge plus is completely bypassing route 1 traffic on the way there. however the major catch is that the train departs strictly thirty minutes after the concert ends. you have to hurry out of the stadium and if you miss it there are no backup trains. it also gets packed wall to wall so expect standing room only on the ride back.
if you want to avoid sprinting out during the last song driving and reserving a spot on prked gives you way more freedom. but if you hate being stuck in traffic and do not mind the train crowd rush the commuter rail is a solid option.
hope this helps!
