How do people even use baby dragons?

I was trying to rush getting the 6th builder by following a guide. All the guides I have seen recommend using baby dragons to get the level 18 troop and say that it's a really powerful troop that you can easily spam.

Genuinely how am I supposed to play baby dragons??? I have gone through dozens of tutorials and guides for using them and they just seem like such an awful troop for attacking. I'm currently at builder base 7 and I don't think I have ever gotten more than 2 stars using the baby dragons, even after following all the guides that explain how to use them.

They die easily to a single air defence and can't even deal enough damage to take down the air defence before going down.

I currently have them at level 10.

Am I just doing something wrong?
