who else does the 11pm sleep math ritual, and how do you actually stop?

It is 11:47pm and I just spent a solid five minutes calculating what time I need to be up, subtracting how long it takes me to actually fall asleep, factoring in that I will probably wake up once around 3am for no reason, and then trying to figure out if 6 hours and 20 minutes is close enough to acceptable or if I should just stay up another 40 minutes to make the math feel cleaner. None of this makes sense but here I am.

The worst part is when the calculation spits out something like 6 hours and 8 minutes and your brain just refuses to accept that number, so you either stay up longer to hit something rounder or you convince yourself you can fall asleep faster than you ever actually do.

I started noticing I do this every night without exception. Weekends included. Even when I have nowhere to be, I am still running numbers in my head before closing my eyes.

At some point the calculation itself is probably what keeps me awake longer than anything else would. I just cannot figure out how to stop doing it. Curious if this is a universal thing or if I have built a weird habit I cannot shake.
