Season 18 Chiapas thoughts after completion (spoilers)
Another season, another two maps to explore, both pretty densely packed.
The first map, Costa Atardecer, is centred around a lovely long section of highway, which when repaired makes everything on this map real easy. Worksites make a return, with some of them being absolutely vital and some of them barely helping at all. There are also some shortcuts which you open by completing tasks to cut a path through the jungle but to be honest these shortcuts are of limited use. A new feature added is "breaking bridges" which collapse the first time you go over them. After this then then act as one-way gates, with one side being a huge vertical step and the other side being a nice gentle ramp. The ways around are never that bad, but you do have to remember which direction you are approaching and whether you need to divert or not. A nice little addition.
There is one trailer store for the entire region and it's nowhere near the garage. I'm not sure I like this new trend.
Gas station right next to the trailer store, so it's nice and central.
The 2nd map, Sierre Fuerte, is where you will be spending most of your time. No roads here, just varying degrees of dirt/mud/rock trails (often all at the same time) with lots of loose rocks and big rock steps which will try to throw you down a hill or break your suspension.
One gas station on this map, pretty much central but no garage or trailer store.
As you progress on this map you will open up new paths by repairing broken pipes, which makes things easier but then towards the end you'll be closing off many main road by repairing other pipes. Do remember which paths are open and which ones are closed! (!)
Both maps feature river crossings, which vary in difficulty and some of which are pretty much impossible for smaller, lighter trucks to make.
Resources are many and widely distributed. There are many factories and warehouses to unlock across both maps, all of which provide a different resource. There's even some limited crafting to be done.
Progression is fun. On the first map you'll be working hard to repair the main highway and after that it's a downright pleasure to grind through all the remaining tasks and contracts for that map. On the 2nd map it's all about getting the factories and warehouses open to unlock the contracts to finish the region. Plenty of work to keep you going and all varied enough to stop it being boring.
Speaking of the tasks and contracts these vary from truck and trailer recovery (scout and reguar hitch, low and high saddle) to small cargo drop offs, a little bit of logging, some water delivery and the usual big cargo drops.
Two new trucks make an appearance in Season 18.
Mercer R230 is anice little Offroad truck. Very, very similar to the K520 from Season 15. Not overpowered, not garbage. Nice little addition to the fleet.
HIB Billert M816 is a Highway truck. It does, however, get AWD and difflock and off-road wheels (including OHD1) so it's really an Offroad truck in disguise.
Trucks I used is basically YES. I used pretty much everything in my fleet. Trucks for logging (long, medium and short logs all needed), trucks for small cargo, trucks with low saddle, trucks with high saddle, trucks for water delivery, trucks with big wheels and good snorkels for the deep river crossings and many, MANY fuel/repair bowser trucks scattered all over the 2nd map.
It took me a long time to drive them all back to the garage when I'd finished the region.
Overall Season 18 is fun. The tropical landscape is beautiful, the ambient sounds are lovely, the constant wildlife flying around, the different coloured waters of the thermal pits, really make this region unique.
The tasks and contracts are not too grindy and having so many different resources means you'll not be going to the same few warehouses every time, but going to a different pickup and drop-off for each job, which keeps things fresh.
Good job, Sabre.
