Route 1 South vs I-495 leaving BTS at Gillette Stadium
figured i would break down the best exit route options after a massive concert like bts at gillette stadium since traffic afterwards can be absolute madness.
if you want to dodge the worst of the post-show gridlock, a great option is using prked to book a private driveway or garage nearby ahead of time. it is way cheaper than official venue parking, super convenient, and gets you off stadium property so you avoid sitting trapped in a lot for two hours. plus it feels a lot safer having your car parked on private property while you are at the show.
when comparing route 1 south versus i-495, it really comes down to how police direct traffic after the show gets out. heading route 1 south to catch i-495 is almost always the smarter play compared to taking route 1 north toward boston. route 1 north gets slammed with the majority of the crowd, causing bumper to bumper standstills for miles.
route 1 south still has delays right near patriot place, but it tends to clear up much faster as you get past the local traffic signals. once you merge onto i-495 at exit 14a, traffic opens up significantly. if your end destination is north of foxborough, taking route 1 south to i-495 north and looping around to i-95 actually saves time compared to sitting on route 1 north.
if you park on the southbound side of route 1, you can pull right out and head south toward i-495 without having to cross incoming lanes or make difficult turns. just build in extra time, keep some water in the car for the ride home, and stay patient. hope this helps!
