Controller trigger fix?

Has anyone got a fix for the controller trigger bug?

I played for about 4 hours - no problems. Controller warned of a low battery, so I plugged it in to charge it, and the triggers stopped working - only for hand tools though. The triggers work fine for ship controls, and menus etc, just I can't use tools/weapons while on foot.

I've tried every combination of unplugging, disconnecting and reconnecting, calibrating, all the steam controller settings, all the in-game controller settings - nothing seems to make it work again.

I play on Linux (steam, proton), and use a PS4 controller connected by Bluetooth.
