Someone please assuage my fears for the new tournament mode

Discussion

After seeing the new mode be announced I have had strong mixed feelings. On the one hand, the idea of it being live, with a potential for true elo/match-making, the increased intensity of that format and the capability to play with friends is very exciting, but I have also had several concerns constantly fighting against it. To be clear, I have yet to try playing it, and I won't so long as it's on PTR as I'm not really interested in messing around with alternate installations or whatever is required to access it. Really I'm just hoping that for those who have, please tell me my fears are unfounded, cus I would love for this to be the thing that lets the game blow up.

  1. The general format has not been designed around the tournament format. It seems to me, that losing day 1 has basically no relevance in the tournament mode, whereas in regular every guide from any decent player that I have seen seems to say always try to win early to avoid the potential to lose to high rolls later. This is because you need a total number of wins, rather than last man standing.

  2. The characters have not been designed with targeted matchmaking in mind. As I saw in a post by a player who claimed to have a lot of PTR experience making a tier list, Dooley simply has far more options available to him (atomic clock, hacksaw, destroy, virus, scarf, coolant) to specifically target counter what an opponent is doing compared to Jules who has literally zero items of that nature. She only has general disruption that can still only really be run within the context of its normal build, like freeze in freeze build and slow in slow build.

  3. In a game like TFT, which has the model the PTR mode is trying to shift towards, there are very few games that are won or lost due to matchup, and of those, good players can still do something by positioning the units on their boards. In the Bazaar its far more common to lose simply due to matchup. Oh you were trying to play freeze while I have cryosleeve? In fact the point from the previous dot point is entirely that some characters have access to single items that can destroy an entire strategy, without the drawback of having the possibility of potentially being wasted.

  4. In the context where maybe both players see each others potential counter items and have multiple options of what to play on their board, it would likely come to just blind guessing at to which items they would play, completely swinging the matchup based around whether they guess right or wrong. This seems most relevant when you are down to the last few players so when the stakes are really high and it matters most, we are decided who wins on a random bluff or gamble?

  5. The bazaar has simply far more large RNG swings in it than a game like TFT. The difference between hitting your preferred enchant or not, about whether you get diamond monster skills, about whether you natural your item upgrades, whether the enemy carry item hits their crit, etc.... I can't really put my finger on something specific, but my gut tells me that in a live version, losses to that sort of thing will feel a lot worse

So yeh, please tell me I'm worried over nothing and these problems happen far less than I'm imagining.
