Who if anyone is a member of the Illuminati and how do they recruit members?

People frequently talk about the Illuminati like it is actually a shadow world government made up of the richest people in the world and secretly controls the world banking system, media and most other important things, allowing it to control nations and world leaders without its own members being elected to any actual office of power.

Does the Illuminati actually exist do or is it just Hollywood and conspiracy BS? How would people get to join it's highest levels or be recruited?

Is it basically the Rothschild family or guys like Donald Trump among others? Makes you wonder what they would do if the media or hackers found out and exposed them to the world with proof of their secret organization.
