Mix in assistance

So i saw to get mix in's all the way through you need to dig a hole almost all the way to the bottom to fix the issue with mixins only staying on top, but what do you do with the ice cream you scoop out for the hole? put it back in and apply pressure for the lid to close or just eat it as it is
