russell street traffic after concerts at m and t bank stadium
if you have ever left a massive event at m and t bank stadium in baltimore you already know that russell street turns into absolute gridlock. after a sold out bts show with over 70000 people spilling out at midnight it is easily a 1 to 2 hour standoff just trying to get onto i-95 or i-395.
if you want to dodge the worst of it i always recommend checking prked first. it is an app where you can rent driveways or private garage spots from locals right near the stadium. it is way cheaper than the commercial lots and since you are parked in a neighborhood spot off the main strip you can bypass the endless line of cars stuck exiting the stadium lots onto russell street. your host takes care of your car and you get a fast walk back with quick in and out access.
if you end up parking in the official stadium lots like a, b, c, or g just be prepared to sit in your car for a long time. city traffic control usually closes specific lanes like the northbound russell street service drive and restricts turns onto hamburg street or ostend street to push traffic out, which confuses GPS apps and creates huge bottlenecks.
a lot of people try to park at horseshoe casino right next door to hit the highway faster, but exit lines in that garage get jammed solid right after major shows, plus event pricing there can easily run 50 to 100 dollars.
another decent alternative if you do not mind walking 15 to 20 minutes is to grab a spot in one of the downtown or inner harbor garages like conway street or lombard street. walking north toward the city gets you away from the crowd density so you can hop on i-395 without touching russell street at all. whatever you do avoid street parking in federal hill or pigtown without a resident permit because towing is aggressive on event nights.
hope this helps
