YA/Thriller (I think?) setting is around the mississippi mounds and a mine

I had read this book around the later 2010s, but i had donated it a few years ago. The main character is in high school, he has 2 friends, one of them is dating the other’s sister. The story has earthquakes happening which they suspect is coming from local fracking. Him and one of his friends do a stakeout at a local mine, and find an unknown group digging for something. At the end, the group unearths an artifact, but as they try to transport it, the main character crashes into their car and end in an endless slumber to keep the evil that was disturbed inside of him.
