Sharing some Observation, shared with other groups as well
Hi all, just wanted to share an observation after seeing so many posts looking for long-term friends, gym buddies, gaming buddies, drinking buddies, and everything in between.
I think most of us crave connection, but sometimes we make it harder than it needs to be by starting with a specific outcome in mind. Genuine friendships... whether it's a brotherhood, sisterhood, or simply a close mates, usually aren't built with an agenda. They grow from getting to know each other, staying curious, and making a consistent effort over time.
Real connection usually starts without an agenda. It's simply two people getting to know each other, having conversations, sharing experiences, and slowly building trust. It comes from knowing you have each other's backs, consistently making an effort, showing up, and being there for each other over time.
A lot of people want the outcome, but forget about the work that creates it. A real friendship isn't something you force or find instantly....it grows naturally through curiosity, effort, and time. Its not a one sided game.
Think about your closest mates growing up. You didn't become best mates because you were both looking for a "long term friend" or "best friend". You spent time together, learnt about each others, had a laugh, and before you knew it, you'd built years of memories. And yes it was easier when we are a kid.
As an adult, life gets busy, so don't take it personally if someone replies slowly or things don't click. Everyone has their own responsibilities and challenges. Not every conversation will turn into a lifelong friendship, and that's okay.
Also, don't limit yourself to people who make "looking for a mate" posts. Plenty of others never post but leave comments instead. If someone comes across as interesting, send them a message and introduce yourself. Don't be lazy with just "Hi" or "Hey." Share a little about yourself.... your interests, hobbies, what you're looking for. It shows you're genuine, gives the other person something to respond to, and helps you stand out. (Not throwing shade at the one word openers... 😅)
One of my closest mates is someone I met online years ago. We now live on different continents, but we still celebrate each other's milestones and have a birthday video call every year because, by coincidence, me , him and his wife are all September babies. I am visiting them soon to celebrate his new milestone.
This isn't a rant... just a reminder to be open-minded, be curious, and let connections develop naturally instead of trying to force a particular outcome.
And finally, keep shooting your shot. I've chatted with and met quite a few people from Reddit over the years, and it's been genuinely refreshing. Some conversations stayed online, while others turned into catching up in person. Not every interaction became a lasting friendship, but every one of them was worthwhile in its own way. Just let things flow naturally and see where they lead. And finally, keep shooting your shot.
Key takeaways: be curious, genuine, making efforts to stay connected, and enjoy the ride.
Disclaimer: stanger danger do exist, be curious but stay safe. No one owes anyone anything in this app, only share what you are comfortable, never feel like you have to do something because the other did.
Hopefully this can enlighten some of the frustrations.... have very a great day!!!
