Night shift just straight up sucks
Night shift in the ER is the worst. It's really just a home for all the bad actors, anxious, psych and some actually really sick people.
The fact that every ER is open 24/7 just induces demand. Last night I saw pretty much every insomniac and anxious human in a 30 mile radius. One patient came in at 0300 because they just happened to remember that they ate taco bell lettuce a few days ago and they were worried about contracting a parasite. Did they have any symptoms? Of course not. Were they able to provide a stool sample for testing? Of course not. How tf can anyone actually think that is an emergency?
I hate that I regularly increase my risk of cancer, dementia and other chronic illness by working night shifts just to deal with this shit. Wish we could just be emergencies only at night.
