Is it worth to play the RE games almost exclusively for the story/lore?

First of all I think the gameplay is by no means objectively bad or anything like it. There is after all a reason the series is so popular.

But being about 3 hours into the RE2 remake I am questioning if the inventory management and backtracking formula is something I'll be able to enjoy and if it is "worth it" to keep playing to find out more about the characters, Umbrella corp and what actually created the Zombies since that is what interests me the most.

I rlly don't wanna be ignorant to the community or anything like it. I am just much more fascinated by the game's stories than I am by its gameplay.

Edit: I really appreciate the direct and honest but friendly responses so thanks to all of you :) I might give it another try anyways at some point but maybe not in the near future. If I do end up enjoying the gameplay more than I thought I might update this post or smth
