Is there any way to skip recaps and the annoying ads for other shows on the Android app?

I'm using the android app to cast to a first generation Google Play (which had no remote) and when the recaps show there is an screen "Skip recap" message on the TV screen but no button in the app to actually skip it like there is in every other streaming app.

So instead I have to skip ahead by 10 seconds or try to guess how far to jump areas in the progress bar?

Am I dense or did the developers completely forget to implement such an obvious feature?
