PHD uni options

As I have recently finished my masters degree I am hoping to take a year of to work and then do a phd. Some of my phd ideas so far involve specifically south african wildlife, however, for a few different reasons moving to south africa permanently for the full length of a phd isnt really possible. It is possible to do a phd like this from a uk or European University while just taking trips south africa if/when needed. I have contacts within south africa that would allow me lab access when needed.

For reference i am a forensic graduate looking to work more in the wildlife/ecology forensic area
