[Some spoilers?] Does anyone actually walk?

As the game goes on, Esquie is more and more necessary to get around. Between the swimming, the coral busting and the flying. (By the way the world map is pretty smartly designed to account for Esquie's varying power level- putting Lumiere and all the stuff critical to the real family in places you can only find by flying).

But for real, I think I only ever dismount Esquie when I'm right at the very entrance of a place. And I don't even need to do that. He's so much faster and more convenient than walking. It's such a short amount of time where you don't have Esquie.

Does anyone have some reason they don't constantly ride him?
