VPN in China

I heard since March 2026, there was a huge crackdown on VPN's and majority of VPN's do not work in China. Is this true? or they have since rolled back this crackdown on VPNs? The reason i'm asking is because i'm planning to visit in October for 2 months, so wanted to know if paying for VPN is worth it still or it will be banned
